Fascinating film actors can indeed work miracles with so material. But there usually comes a point when they no longer disguise that the story they are so seriously committed to telling is somehow suspect. It is worth sitting down with a bowl of popcorn and watch.
It is a star Amandla Sternberg as Maddy , a young household 18 years of age girl with an Immunodeficiency disease that makes her allergic to going outside which is she is allergic to everything in the outside world and is trapped to the imprison of her own clean , sanitary and somewhat clinical vision she knows as home. While her mother who is Anika Noni Rose is the genius behind her child’s safety, you feel very sad for a doctor who is a mother but also has another duty to protect her daughter more than her own self.
There is something mind blowing about having a young, independent black lady. Amandla is a voice to her community having her media platforms as a forum to be heard and promote herself rightfully successful for the new film. Nick Robinson beautifully embody the classic love interest, Olly yet is his backstory which is more tragic than usually shown in romantic films.
Maddy and Olly’s story started as a fairytale but comes with full of circle when the realities of Maddy’s diseases stand against her to fight for her love and freedom. Maddy’s nurse Carla is one of a kind honestly portrayed by Anabelle Gardoqui, she totally nails the role of a compassionate and kind hearted woman, who is an alternative outlet for Maddy to turn to.Filter Maddy and Olly’s relationship is confined to be the walls of Maddy’s house, Olly’s life is being against the wall by the hands of his father.
When you think of love, you think of strong feelings, the agape that does not warrant anything in return, does not ask much but importantly allows one to know, that they always have a special place in someone’s heart. Maddy falls over her obstacles that are set in her path few times. With her mother discovering her first meet with Olly, a loved one is lost.
The movie is about love and whilst many movies portray love to be easy nor simple but everything everything understands the boundaries of real love in this world. Maddy and Olly went on a trip to Hawaii but then the reality of her disease hit back to life. Which that dark and real shadow began to develop and wrap around Maddy’s life.
The cinematography is not brilliant , yet the artistic throughout the movie is constant which is satisfying the viewrs. The interior of every single scene is fine thought through and the constract of Maddy and Olly house can go unnoticed by viewers but I did see. There is closeness of darker tones on Olly’s house with Maddy’s white house , shown contrast between the lack of life Maddy explored , being all perfect and innocent and the bearing life Olly has ventured through. The movie at the end loses credibility but the demographics that is the main target hence won’t care it will be caught up in a young romance rooting for the young couple that’s hard not to like. The music was the second thing I loved in the movie, very romancing and gave the film more relaxed mindset for us watchers.
I’m rating the movie 8 of 10
